Welcome to Day 8 of our trip.
On this day we decided we would soak up the sun and enjoy the various waters around us.
First thing in the morning we walked up to the hallway above the marina and picked up some breakfast at a cafe we were familiar with. I had a focaccia pizza and Deanna had a caprese sandwich again. We also bought a bottle of prosecco. :)
After breakfast we packed up our beach bags and head down to Riomaggiore Beach. We both had water shoes which came in handy at this very rocky beach.
We setup our towels and gear in the back of the beach and went to get in the water. Along the side of the walkway to the beach is a ladder that lets you climb into the water at a deeper point away from the rocky beach. The other option is to carefully walk your way into the surf on the rocky beach and boulders under the water. It is pretty rough going and you have to be very careful until you are able to float and swim above the rocks.
The water swells were pretty big at this beach, but the more deeper you get the milder it can be of an experience. The waves would crash against the shore periodically in a pretty dramatic fashion. We also noticed that people were not very shy at this beach and several ladies went topless here and some guys were fully nude for a moment while changing in the open.
After we swam at the beach for a bit I (Mack) decided I wanted to go swim in the area next to the marina. There were lots of people jumping from the rock cliff there and some decent areas to swim. So while Deanna hung out at our hotel I made my way down to the marina. I climbed down the rocks and placed by bag within view of the water and climbed down further. At the edge of the water there was a rock that resembled a bench and I could just sit on it and slide into the sea. The water there was nice, but a bit like a washing machine with waves crashing over the rocks in front of us. I swam from rock to rock and sat on one rock out in the middle for a while and held on while the water crashed over and onto me. Occasionally the waves were so strong I would nearly get thrown out of my little underwater chair. I sat there and watched the people jumping from the top of the rock into the deep point in front of me. After I had enough I grabbed my backpack and beer and hiked back up to our hotel.
I swooped up Deanna and we went outside to our hotel hot tub and lounged in there for a while until our fingers were prunes.
We showered and got ready for dinner. We walked up into the town center earlier than the night before so that we could try to get a table at the same restaurant we got take away from previously. We were in luck and got seated instantly.
Deanna ordered a tuna salad and I ordered spaghetti carbonara for my main. We also ordered 2 margherita pizzas and 1 four cheese pizza. We ordered extra food so we would have leftover pizza for the next morning when we were traveling back to Milan. We ordered a Tiramisu to go and started back to our hotel.
It was still sunny out so we picked up some Aperol Spritz on the way and sat down on our terrace to enjoy our final sunset in Riomaggiore.
Before we went to bed, I used https://athenstaxinow.com/ to book a ride for us from the Athens airport to our hotel in Athens.
That is the end of Day 8.
